8-week World Drumming

Diversity Program

For Students in Grade 5 & 6

No previous music experience is required & instruments are provided.

The sight, sound, and feel are powerful motivators for students. When playing world music ensembles, players require the devotion to work together. Feedback is immediate: a dynamic, forceful, expressive sound that is greater than the sum of its parts.

In addition to learning African, Caribbean and First Nations music the students will build skills in communication and listening, cooperative teamwork and respect for others while developing self-esteem and personal discipline. Students will also learn how to lead and follow a musical solo, understand and demonstrate the value and practice of cooperative teamwork.

The Drumocracy D.R.U.M. Club is a musical ensemble designed to enhance personal growth through a focus on World Music drumming. The program consists of 8 one hour sessions. All students will be required to review the membership requirements with their parents and sign a contract.

The Cornerstones of the Drumocracy D.r.u.m. CLUB are:

Devotion

In drum ensemble every member is critical. We exercise personal devotion because we agree that our choices affect everyone else.

Respect

We promise to respect ourselves, our team members, the music and the instruments.

Unity / Music

Through D.R.U.M. Club we believe that young people will foster an appreciation for cultural diversity and be able to experience the feelings of belonging in community so important to character development.
